The Wedgewood Golf Classic started in 1983 as a bunch of High School friends from the Wedgewood area going out for a fun game of golf. That one idea quickly turned into an ongoing, every year tourney which is still going today. It is more about friends (many who are childhood friends) reconnecting at least once a year, so we stay in touch and enjoy each other’s company. The golf competition is secondary, but we take it quite seriously even though we still have a lot of fun!
There are great shots/scores and some bad shots/scores. At the end of the weekend – there is never a shortage of laughs, smiles, ribbing and a whole lot of B.S. It’s amazing this little tournament has survived all these decades later and those involved are all grateful to be part of a fantastic tradition. All of us look forward to this weekend every year. Typically it is always the third weekend in July so circle it in your calendars!!! We get to play amazing courses all over the beautiful Maritimes. We are a welcoming bunch as long as someone in the group knows you and can vouch for you and you have an interest in returning most years. It is all about the fun folks and we have a lot of it! We had it in our late teens and we’re still having it in our 50’s!
In 2025 we played our practice round at Clyde River Golf Course in Clyde River, PE of course. Our tournament was actually played at Stanhope Golf and Country Club on Saturday and the background image you see is from this course. The clubhouse unfortunately is still under construction from the fire 4 years ago but a good part of this is complete. Accommodations were held at Memotree Resort that housed all of us between hotel rooms and a few cottages.
